  dear jw,.

  i have some questions.

  as i understand it, if armageddon came tomorrow, those that never heard the truth, in such places as india or china would either live through armageddon or die and be resurrected.

  OK, God is omnipotent, correct? God is love, correct? Why wouldn't he, for the sake of efficiency and accuracy, just make a general audible announcement that he's going to end the world soon and anyone who doesn't shape up is going to get the ultimate ass whipping?

  Why would he want to use lazy assed JW's, who are more interested in counting their time than saving people, to do such an important work.

  Because, the whole notion of preaching the end of the world is folly. It makes no sense. The world will end when either our sun burns itself out, or a giant meteor hits the earth or one of the other planets in our solar system and pushes it out of it's orbit.

  When and where baptized

  i thought it might be interesting to see how many here remember where and when they were baptised into the borg.

  for some the memory may be too painful, but i'm curious.. me.

  Me. . . it was 1966 in Vancouver, BC. I was spending the summer in Washington state at the time.

  Since it occured in Canada, I always wondered if it really counted.

  What is your favorite bible translation?

  being raised as a jw all of my life, the only bible that i have ever used was the nwt.

  i would like to start reading some from another bible other than this translation.. for those who have compared several bible translations, i would like to know what translation you liked or prefer the most and why.. regards, stealth

  My favorite bible translation is of course the New World Translation. Why? Well because when it comes to translations of the bible, does it really matter? Why not prefer the one that is the biggest joke and slants the words to support a specific religion the most? Very creative indeed.

  1975 Reaction

  this past weekend, one of the few remaining jw relatives who will still discuss jw stuff with me told me about his recently attending a home bible study being conducted by an elder.

  evidently, the study had been told or had picked up some info about the 1975 fiasco.

  the elder totally denied that the society had stated or even led people to believe that armageddon would occur in 1975, and he naturally blamed some individual jws for misinterpreting the society's materials.

  When I graduated from High School in 1967, the 1975 date influenced all of my decisions about the future. Of course the war in Vietnam was full on and the likelihood of being drafted into the military was another concern for a young lad. But the choices were to full-time pioneer, or register as a conscientious objector to war and end up in a hosptial emptying bedpans. Oh yeah, they were still granting college military exemptions then, but we know what the societies opinion of college was.

  When I went to Bethel in late 1969, many Bethel talks, morning comments at the breakfast table, etc. focused on the nearness of the end in 1975. Nathan Knorr, Fred Franz, Karl Klien and any other GB who led the daily text discussion, made it clear at one time or another that we were looking to 1975 as the end of the system. Bear in mind that some of these were the same ones who were writing magazine articles hinting at the same 1975 date as the end. So whenever I see, or hear that the GB wasn't setting dates, I want to projectile vomit.

  The United States has, for almost 300 years, been able to keep drunken British soccer hooligans from swarming our shores. I'd like to keep it that way.

  The biggest difference between soccer and American football appears to be the absence of 300 spectator deaths and injuries at an American football game.

  Holidays: Do you celebrate?

  i smell something burning; oh, just me thinking again!!.

  anyway, one thing i always missed were the holidays-christmas especially.

  i know that this is an unproven celebration to say the least, but i have always loved the warmth and beauty of this holiday, although very commercialized in this day and age.

  I need help! I'm losing my wife!

  my wife is becoming a witness and i've found very little that i can do to stop her!

  i've tried to show her that the wt does not quote correctly, i've talked to her about past beliefs and i've tried to reason with her about the bible.

  but she won't listen!.

  You must do whatever you can to free your wife from this most dangerous snare, known as the Watchtower Society. Bearing in mind that she is an adult who can and will make her own decisions about her religion. Do you have children? Is your marriage otherwise good? These are important pieces of information that you didn't share. But they will have an impact on how you must proceed.

  I've known quite a few non-Witness men who have had successful marriages to Witness women. If she decides to become a Witness and you think you can deal with it, you will need to be open to making adjustments in your marriage.

  If holidays and birthdays mean anything to you, you had better be prepared to kiss those celebrations good bye. If being together evenings and weekends is important to you, then be prepared to spend less time with her. She has 5 mandatory meetings a week to attend and she will be expected to spend a significant amount of weekend time going from door to door doing conversion work. If you have certain intimacies in your marriage that are against the policies of the Watchtower Society, be prepared to forego them.

  Thankfully I'm not faced with your problem, but if I were, knowing what I know, I'd fight like hell to prevent my wife from affiliating herself with this cult known as Jehovah's Witnesses.
